Some parents like to use regular, upright, ball-and-stick manuscript handwriting; others prefer to us the Italic style that lends itself easily to cursive in later years. Either style is fine. Beginning writers find it easier to copy onto widely-lined paper that already has the words printed on it, rather than from a book. Several files of manuscript copywork are available for free download on our site. |

Use this year to teach and practice cursive handwriting. |
Students will have ample opportunity to display their best handwriting in future grades through dictation exercises and written narrations. Thus, we don’t continue copywork as a separate subject past Grade 3; we simply expect students to practice the habit of best handwriting. However, if your student needs more separate handwriting practice, feel free to continue assigning copywork as long as it is helpful.
