My four-year-old and I are loving this program! With very little prep work, I am able to present a fun reading lesson daily. We usually spend two days on each activity (though I skip some because they seem too complicated or my son doesn’t enjoy then). We have almost finished the section on letter names and plan to begin sounds soon. He began this program with a beginning understanding of letter sounds and names so I plan to begin younger (maybe age 3.5) with my younger son. This is a great product!
Another benefit? When my son sees the artwork in the abc book that is also on the back of the letter cards, he gets really excited because he recognizes the pictures.

This truly is a *delightful* way to teach beginning reading.

I’m currently using this kit with my 5 year old daughter and we both love it, so simple, fun, yet she’s learning lots!

This is wonderful! It gives a fun and meaningful exposure to letters and sounds. The materials are great quality, and the art on them is so lovely! This was exactly what I wanted, and haven’t found anything like it elsewhere.

This program is so simple and fun. We have a suspected gifted two year old and have tried traditional preschool curriculums but they just don’t mesh with his advanced intellect but undeveloped motor skills. (I.e. copying letters just does not work at this age). Plus, besides the motor skills, they moved too slow or went over concepts that he already knew. I love Playing with Letters and Sounds because it is soooo flexible and is not dependent on a workbook. All of the activities use things that either come with the “curriculum” or that everyone has around their house (cereal or food boxes, computer keyboard, play dough, etc). There are no fancy crafts or activities that force you to go buy stuff you don’t have. Even so, my son has loved everything we’ve done—letter bingo, I Spy, Musical ABCs, etc. I also like that it doesn’t force some arbitrary letter order on you or assign a letter a week. When you have a child with special needs, whether they are advanced or learning delayed, someone else’s pace is just frustrating so not feeling tied to a timeline is very freeing.

We have loved this kit. I had tried two other play-based but more traditional options, but my son did not enjoy them, and I realized I needed something truly play-based. I love how simple all these activities are and that you can choose your pace, activities, and method of delivery. Even though it isn’t as open-and-go like a workbook might be, the preparation is extremely minimal and hasn’t been at all complicated or time- consuming. My son is finally retaining the information, which is exciting, but even better, we are making happy memories together. I am so happy I decided to go with this option. It is a beautiful product.

I can’t even tell you how much we have loved this program. I did it with my oldest (she’s now in delightful reading level 2 and loving it!) and I’m ¾ of the way through level 1 with my second daughter. The short interactive lessons with my children is delightful and it also makes it easy when another sibling wants to join in on the fun. A beautiful and gentle program to instill the love of letters and reading! I’m amazed as I see my eldest sounding out her words and discovering new words with ease because of these programs!
