Maybe you are new to Charlotte Mason’s methods and are on the fence about whether to use them in your home school.
Or perhaps you aren’t sure that CM methods would work with your boys.
Well, take some encouragement from Amanda L.’s experience with her two sons. Here is her Happy Results story.
I have been homeschooling my two oldest sons for a few years now, using various methods. School was fine, but not good or great. I first learned about Charlotte Mason two years ago, and I had a strong feeling that her teaching methods were what my family needed. Unfortunately I was afraid to make the change. I felt safe and comfortable with the curriculum and methods we had been using. School wasn’t great; but my kids had learned, so I felt that the status quo was at least “working.”
I decided to keep all of our curriculum and add some of Charlotte Mason’s principles on top of what we were already doing. At the end of the year, I looked back to evaluate and felt major disappointment. My kids had learned a lot, but there was no joy or excitement in our homeschool. Every day seemed like drudgery.
So this year I decided to take the plunge. I ordered the “Learning and Living: Homeschooling the Charlotte Mason Way” DVD. I fell in love with Charlotte, her principles, and the Simply Charlotte Mason curriculum!
This school year has been great! The school stress and pressure have melted away, and my children are learning so much more than before. The other day one of my sons said, “Mom, I really like school this year!” The other agreed! I no longer have to argue with them about school or cajole them to do their work. We are all so happy with our homeschool now. Charlotte’s methods are exactly what we need!
