    Very kind of you, LindseyD.

I’ve been on this board for 4 or 5 years, but don’t participate a lot. (My children being so much older.) You can click on my name to read my previous posts. There aren’t many. I had a CM website back in the 90’s and was very active on the old yahoogroups in the 90’s and 2000’s. I’m not sure anyone would still remember me from those times.

How lovely that you all are so quick to one another’s defence. That must be wonderful to have a close group of friends to keep each other safe and defend each other against those 1% who shouldn’t stick around where they’re not really wanted. I suppose each website does have it’s own flavor, and likes keeping it as safe as possible.

I did pop over to your blog and your post on Manners was really admirable. You have a very sweet family.

All well said by everyone. I often regret that intentions and real meaning can not always be conveyed in type written messages. I think we really all love our children and love homeschooling and admire what Charlotte Mason has brought to all of our experiences. That is good common ground to be on. I must say I love to see the sweet tone with which this was all handled and the humbleness. If only all such conversations could come around like this. Very beautiful and I am glad to be a small part(as I don’t post often either) of this wonderful board.

Very inspiring! We are hoping to turn our garage apartment next door to our house into a small school space by the end of next summer. I thought everything looked beautiful but a little dark. We are hoping for lighter colors in our schoolroom with lots of book shelves.

Actually, the darkness of the room is deceiving. There are two windows, and during school time, the room gets great natural light. I took the video at night and using my phone, so the lighting was less than stellar. If you clicked on my Pinterest link to my living room, that is a much more accurate perspective of the color/lighting during the day time in our school room.

Awesome pinterest boards, Lindsey. I am loving your peacock feather wreath and gray walls.

Regarding schoolrooms, I am all about flexibility. We recently had to rearrange the house and add personal desks to bedrooms because our family size increased with baby #8. My 30 Ikea Billy bookcases (the narrow 15 inch ones) throughout the house add a bit of charm. RobinP, here on the boards, is my inspiration…there’s nothing like living in the library (except maybe living in a museum).

@CM Mom: Your suggestion to school at an outside table blessed me greatly. Please continue to share your opinions as I would love to learn from you, a wise and experienced Charlotte Mason mother. Thank you.

We completely changed our school room over a year ago to accomodate more study and project space for each kid. I actually prefer how it looked before, but I love it’s functionality for our family now and I’m thankful for a handy hubby!

Wow, missceegee, that is beautiful and inspiring! It looks like it could be featured in a CM magazine. 😉

Do your kids keep their individual workspaces all neat and tidy, day in and day out? I’m sure it’s just a habit to do it, but none of my kids have ever had a personal workspace while living at home…there’s just never been room..so I’m curious. I think a personal space would be so great, something that they can call their own and, idk, maybe feel a sense of ownership and satisfaction in keeping it like that.

Do you have “before” pictures of the same area? I’d love a link to it, if it’s on your blog. It’s a bit of a pain to search anything online when I’m on my phone, but I’d love to see what it used to look like.

Great job, and thanks for sharing the pics!

Mysterious – The desks areas can get quite messy throughout the day, but they are tidied each afternoon. Sometimes a project stays out, but books and things get put away. My dd7 can really pile things up if I don’t keep an eye on it, but she’s building the habit because we do it daily. They do enjoy having a spot of their own. Before Pics. I loved the before look even more, but this is much more functional for us and I love it, too.

I know not everyone has space for or is interested in having a dedicated homeschool room, but it’s a blessing to me to be able to have one. Now if we ever move, I want to take it with me!

    It’s wonderful!!!

You’ve given me some motivation to re-look at our spaces to see if I can change things up to make them work and look better. We don’t have an area for a dedicated school room (only one long room for books/school/computers/living room/etc) but I’m sure I can make it work better!

    Enjoy your room!

Christie, that is LOVELY!  Thank you for some inspiration.  I have been looking at our bookshelves in dispair as I try to arrange them satisfactorily for this upcoming year.  So far, no success.  I need at least 2 more large bookshelves, and need to do rearranging to get them.  Though I really thought I needed to have them all figured out by this coming week, that is not the plan that is before me at this moment, and I think I’ll just take the rearranging slowly and make it some together time with the girls so we can talk about family stuff which will help us all right now, too.  Maybe I’ll add pictures, though I am fairly certain our room will not look quite as lovely as yours or several of the others that I’ve seen. That is a great space, Christy! Thank you for sharing! It always insprires me to some degree when I can see what others have come up with for their learning/working spaces. We have a lot less room to work with in the house we are currently in and I have been coming up with all sorts of ideas to try to keep things easy to use, tidy and still lovely to sit down and use as a family room at the same time. All while acquiring more books! Ha! I loved all the cupboard/shelf space that you you were able to fit in. : )

May I ask, which arrangement do your kids like better? This new one or the previous set up? Just curious about a childs’ perspective. Sometimes I am surprised by what my kids prefer in this area.

    Blessings!

They greatly prefer this set up with their own workspaces. They did like the chairs in the pictures better than the industrial wooden seat ones we replaced them with. The new ones are hard! We just migrate to the kitchen if we need to do table work together, but that is rare. Otherwise we sit on the couch to read.
