I don’t mean to gush, but I can’t say enough good things about Using Language Well book 3! We have used Rod and Staff English, Writing With Skill and other programs through the years since I was always concerned with thoroughness. But I dreaded the length of the lessons, and oh my goodness, the wordiness!! (in the upper levels. I will confess to still liking and using the lower levels of R&S) ULW 3 has addressed it all for me. We are doing detailed, upper level grammar. It is short and sweet, concise, and enjoyable. There is constant review. It addresses vocabulary, writing tips, and, I think, more poetry analysis (I know there was some in book 2, but we haven’t gotten there yet in this book…I’ll check), all while being true to the CM method. I am doing it together with my 8th and 10 graders. At this point, we are doing it daily since we started a little later, but it only takes a few minutes each day. It’s been a perfect review for my 10th grader, and has helped things click for my 8th grader. Just wanted to share for anyone wondering about the program. It’s a big hit here!
