While all of them are appropriate for grades 1–12, here are my personal suggestions:
- Robert Louis Stevenson will probably be enjoyed most by the younger children. He writes about simple pleasures and impressions of his childhood. Very straightforward poems, which also makes a nice starting point if this is your first toe-in-the-water with poetry.
- Emily Dickinson will probably be most enjoyed by middle to older children. She has some simple poems about nature but also some deceptively simple poems about life that are pretty deep when you ponder them. Younger children will enjoy them, but the older ones will possibly appreciate them more.
- Alfred, Lord Tennyson will probably be most enjoyed by upper middle to older children. His poems are longer than the other two poets’ and some are full of thought-provoking ideas. His story-poems, however, would probably appeal to all ages.
So that’s why we say grades 1–12; there’s something here for everyone. I hope you enjoy the poems!
AngelinaParticipantWonderful, thank you!
Jordan SmithKeymasterEnjoy the Poems is now up in the store! But wait just a second before you check it out, because we’ve decided to give away some e-books to those of you who guessed that our new product was for poetry study.
First, erin.kate and MissusLeata, you’ve each won the e-book copy of the poet of your choice.
And then Mysterious Lady in Pink made an amazing guess with her recognition of the CM quote, so she gets e-books of all three poets.
All three of you will be receiving private messages with coupon codes soon.
Thanks for guessing, everyone! We hope your home school is enriched with the new Enjoy the Poems series.
ShannonParticipantThat’s so cool! I love that you are giving these away as prizes for the guessing. How sweet of SCM! Congrats you wise women!
erin.kateParticipantGoodness, thank you Jordan and Sonya and the SCM Team! You are truly a gift to all of us. Cannot wait to peek into this awesome offering. I’m sure it is amazingly well done, as always!
MissusLeataParticipantOh, wow! Thank you for the free e-book! So excited to get this!!!
MonicaParticipantFantastic!!! Thanks so much to the SCM team for the great resources.
Doug SmithKeymasterI have a little favor to ask. We could use a few reviews and ratings over on the book’s page to get things started. It would be much appreciated if some of you who have already gotten your hands on the books could leave a review and let everyone else know what you think. Thanks!
Mysterious Lady in PinkParticipantWOW!!!! I am so excited!!! What a great and unexpected way to start my day! Thank you so much, SCM team, for the wonderful gift!
LindseyDParticipantAlthough we have already studied Stevenson and Dickinson, I’m going to buy these anyway for us to re-visit! I LOVE RLS, and before my children are too old to think he’s the greatest poet ever (like I do!), we’re going to do one more study! These look so beautiful and promising. Thank you again, SCM, for always providing us with fabulous resources!
MistyParticipantThis will be on the list for next year! Can’t wait to get all 3. Also, the price is so reasonable. Thanks SCM team for constantly coming out with new products that are for the entire family, already spelled out for those who like that and making everything affordable for all size families! You are the best!
AprilMayJune75ParticipantI am so excited to see these! I am not able to homeschool anymore due to a change in our family situation, but DD (age 8) and I still love to incorporate parts of a CM education into our evenings and weekends (nature study, quality living books, etc.) We read the first two poems by R.L. Stevenson offered in the sample and she is begging me to buy it so we can read more!
EmilyParticipantDoug or Jordan,
I love these Enjoy the poem series, and am wondering how soon you’ll be able to get them into the book finder so we can schedule them. I can’t seem to find them, unless I’m just not typing in the correct title…….. Thanks!
Jordan SmithKeymasterSo glad you’re enjoying the new books! We added them to the Bookfinder right after the release, but for some reason they aren’t appearing in the search results. Here are links to each one:
Tennyson: https://apps.simplycharlottemason.com/resources/detail/136832
Stevenson: https://apps.simplycharlottemason.com/resources/detail/136830
Dickinson: https://apps.simplycharlottemason.com/resources/detail/136828
Thanks for letting us know they weren’t showing in the search. I’ve asked our programmer to take a look at that.
