I have a 8yo and 6yo. (they will soon be 9 and 7) and I really want to do CM with them but I have a hard time even starting. I am using Heart of Dakota right now but not dilligently as it is overwhelming me.

I have viewed the all day seminar but it’s been a few years and we moved and I can’t find it right now to view it again. I know it’s here just probably packed.

I really need something laid out for me and I have a hard time with the AO site. I did find this site a bit easier to follow though.

Also I want to keep my boys together for as much as I can. They love being together especially when I am reading to them.

Do you have any suggestion on where to start or where on this site I can find that?

    Thanks,

    Kim

http://simplycharlottemason.com/series/getting-started/ is a good series full of encouragement.

This is a simpler approach, especially if you plan to have your children study the same topics.

The free curriculum guide is helpful too… http://simplycharlottemason.com/planning/curriculum-guide/

    Hi Kim

Not sure if it is just me, but I found the old SCM curriculum guide easier to follow when first starting. http://simplycharlottemason.com/planning/curriculum-guide/old-scmguide/

I like that I could see the whole picture on one page.  I printed it out, and then printed the guidlines for each subject.  I popped this all in a binder and then I added a blank page behind each subject and jotted down my rough ideas.  Say for example for composers, I realised which cd’s we owned and what books we had and so jotted down the composers I thought we could try.  I went through each subject like that.

Once I had decided that, I plotted it out on the blank SCM “plans for my year” free printable chart.

Then it was time to work out a schedule to fit it all in.  Initially I found this rather difficult.  I had not taken CM seriously about the short lessons, and we were taking far too long.  This year has been much better.

Is it the CM methods that you are finding hard, and needing to re-cap or getting all the CM stuff into a schedule, or both?

Someone very kindly suggested to me when we started that we did not have to implement everything at once, but slowly transtition into CM.  That was very good advice.  So, each week (month, fortnight) you could introduce another aspect of CM and slowly get used to it.  Sometimes I think we HS moms put too much pressure on ourselves.

Lastly, Nadine, from Practical Pages suggests “One more thing” every afternoon, after lunch to fit in the full spread of a CM education.  You may like to try it that way instead.

I think I am having a hard time just getting it all organized and figuring out what to do and not wanting to go back to the “school” way. Does that make sense?

We are so very lucky here to have two living books libraries and so that part should be pretty easy.

I think though after going through the site more and finding the wonderful resources that have it laid all out for me I think I can do this.

Thanks for all your suggestions they really were helpful.
