Gr.6 – Where to start with Language / spelling?

    My daughter will be in 6th grade this fall, and this is the time of year that we choose our resources.  I like to have time over the spring/summer to pre-read books and guides.  She has very poor spelling.  We have used various “spelling curriculum” over the past few years, but the results are awful.  I don’t think she’s learned anything!  So, I am ready to finally move to CM methods for Language Arts.  The plan we are considering is moving completely to SCM for all subjects (except Math, although I’m considering CM methods for this too.).   So…..  my question : I want to buy the Grade 6 Individual Studies guide.  I am not sure which Language / Spelling level books she should start with, though.  I see that the Gr.6 guide starts in the middle of Language and Spelling book 2.  Should I just buy the Gr. 6 guide, but start with Book 1, Lesson 1 of the Language and Spelling books?

    Melissa,

    SCM has a placement guide for Spelling Wisdom and Using Language Well about 2/3 of the way down the resource page at the bookstore.  Use it to settle on where to place your daughter.  You can easily substitute Spelling Wisdom 1 and Using Language Well 1 in the Individual Studies.  All are scheduled 2 days a week.  🙂
