Ladies, I will be spending the next 5 days home alone. I am 8 months pregnant and feeling it. My husband has taken the boys to visit his mom and their cousins at the beach. The ride was too long for me and my severe restless legs so I am spending this week getting some projects done and resting. I know there was a thread on here a while back about movies you all loved from netflix. I can not find it for the life of me. So can you all give me your favorites or point me in the direction of that link.
I was thinking of posting something about this too. My husband will be traveling for the summer – gone 9 days, home 5 days. So, I was thinking that if I wanted to watch something while he is gone, what would it be? I never pick something for myself. Either DH picks it or it is something for the kids. I don’t have Netflix, but do have Amazon Prime.
Have you seen Temple Grandin? It is an excellent story about a girl with autism. I don’t know if it is on Netflix, I got it from the library.
Amy, I have trouble finding that Netflix thread too! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve searched for it and never found it!
If you’re interested in Food/Nutrition documentaries:
Food Matters Food, Inc. The Beautiful Truth The Gerson Miracle Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead
If TV series are your thing, we have liked:
Lost 24 The West Wing Downton Abbey Jericho The Office (probably lots of eye-rolling going on from others, but we really like it!)
Since you’re pregnant, you might enjoy:
The Business of Being Born (1 & 2–these discuss midwifery, home birthing, hospital births, etc. very interesting) Call the Midwife (a very historically accurate telling of childbirth and life in the impoverished areas of GB) What to Expect When You’re Expecting
Also, if you’ve never watched the Twilight Saga, they are some of my favorites. This is probably surprising, and if anyone disagrees, I’m totally ok with it. I found a lot of positive aspects to the Twilight movies, and it really is just a great love story. 😉
Pangit, the Temple Grandin movie is excellent. I also got it from our library. As my son is autistic, I could totally relate, but for those who only have neuro-typical kids, it still would give a good idea of what autism and sensory processing disorders are like for some. (Each autistic person is different.)
It was a little emotional for me to watch for the first 10 minutes or so, but it was terrific.
In the past, we’ve enjoyed the movie Glory Road (about the first basketball team that had both black and white players, the hardships they fasted, and how they made it to the championships), Bringing up Baby (with Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant), The Greatest Game Ever Played (about a boy who wants to learn how to play golf and grows up to be a great golf player), Martian Child (about a widower who adopts a boy who thinks he’s from outerspace. such a SWEET story), the kid in me LOVES the live action Peter Pan from 2003, and any Disney Princess movie ever made – especially Cinderella and Tangled. hmmmm….I’m sure I’ll think of more! Have fun and stay cool! I’m on my 8th month too, and I swell up so badly when it gets hot!
Oh – and the “reality show” from PBS – Frontier House. It’s on youtube. 🙂 And one that I wouldn’t have watched on my own, but my sisters had a girls night and purposely tried to pick a movie they thought I wouldn’t find objectionable – Leap Year. It was really cute and a complete chick flick. It wasn’t over the top objectionable, depending on your standards. I’m sure you can find a trailer on youtube to make your own judgement on if it would be something you would choose to watch or not.
Thanks ladies, these are great suggestions. Lindsey, I own the Twilight Saga. I agree too that there are some good aspects to the movie. So no eye rolling from me :).
A couple I have watched recently that I really liked were The Wedding Planner and We Are Marshall both with Matthew McConaughey. I have been watching a lot of Rom com’s lately though I do watch a lot of documentarys.
