Hey, everyone! 🙂
We will be starting our 3rd year of homeschooling next year. My kids will be in 8th and 6th grades, plus a 4 year old.
We have been using the textbook approach to homeschooling, and after the initial excitement of being out of public school wore off, the kids hate textbooks. 😥
I have decided for the last 2 months of school we are backing off from the textbooks and using more relaxed ways of learning (living books, I suppose).
I have been reading the SCM site and love the concepts, but I don’t know where to start. Help! I am trying to get things ready for next year.
ShannaParticipantHave you look at the SCM curriculum guide here http://simplycharlottemason.com/planning/scmguide/. It really breaks it down.
If you need instruction on how to get started then I would HIGHLY recommend getting the Planning Your CM Education here http://simplycharlottemason.com/books/planning-your-charlotte-mason-education/.
HTH!!! BTW, HAVE FUN!!!
ShayMemberThank you! 🙂
AmyTXParticipantI can definitely relate, as we are preparing to make a change for next year, too! I’ve been using this site for a few months, trying to learn all I can. If you haven’t yet read the free e-book here called “Education Is,” I’d highly recommend it. It gives you a good “big picture” view of what CM is all about. From that point, I bought the All-Day CM Seminar dvd/book and found it the perfect “step two” for me. Then just a few days ago I got the Planning Your CM Education set and started on it. So far, I’m really glad I did it in that order! Just a few thoughts from a fellow newbie.
