    Dear SCM,

I was amazed today to see how the CM Organizer wishlist has grown. Great ideas…but I think the CM Organizer is just about perfect now that you have upgraded the show additional assignments for individual items to 4 (yes! Thank you!)…almost complete, you know…that is…if we could customize the subject order. So, is this a yes, maybe, or no feature (hot, warm, or cold)? With the new SCM website organization, I just might believe that I am the most up to date, organized, and with it homeschool mama if you could figure out that CM Organizer subject order feature. I somehow don’t think in alphabetical order. My brain is more like…Please help! What am I suppose to be doing now? And, well, my children seem to look up at me (or down these days with some of them sprouting up taller), trusting me, ready to do as they are told. They are such good kids…you know…BUT wouldn’t it be lovely to say…follow this IN ORDER AND THEN YOUR DONE, HUN! (Hun for honey ‘cuz lately when I tell them and retell them and go over it one more time…Mama seems like Attila the Hun.) Thanks.

    Affectionately yours,

    Attila

Just thinking the same thing today. I’m new to the CM organizer so I looked for a good 15 minutes then figured they don’t have it. Yet, I hope. Laughing Keeping my fingers crossed though, just in case…. for now I will use my SL guides to keep me on track as to what goes first & next….but it would be nice not to need them. This is hands down still the best organizer despite the lack of all the bells & whistles.

I just put a number next to the subject and that seems to help them know what order to go in.  You could do ABC or 123…

Janell, I enjoyed your post. =)

This would be one of my most used features!!

Yes, I could do numerical order, but my brain prefers top to bottom, left to right. And wouldn’t it be neat if I didn’t have to print it out for my six school aged children but could view it from our computers? Visual person here who loves ya, SCM. I was just wonderin’ if and when.

Thanks, Sheraz. I especially liked the “Affectionately Yours.” Got that from Screwtape Letters which is scheduled in the CMO as our family reading under the subject Character…which is conveniently under Bible so it gets read bright and early. My five year old would prefer if I scheduled Screwtape under the “Zone Out” subject to be read at the end of the day with all of our Z books.

Might these be helpful to any of you? Or, am I misunderstanding the need as explained? I am still a TOC binderizer, so I have to decide on a daily/weekly routine and use dividers between subjects. I put them in the binder in order of daily use/weekly frequency. Is that what you are all trying to do with the CMO?

You’re talking about this one, right? We’re not working on that feature right now, but it is higher up on our list of priorities.

Yes, Jordan, I believe that’s what she’s referring to and is my only hindrance to using the CMO. Should this item become available, I would likely purchase the CMO straight away!

I’d like to get some more feedback on how you all see this working. Is it enough to give subjects a priority and that’s how they sort every day? Or do we need to have a way to custom sort subjects for each day individually? How might this play out when we don’t know how many assignments you’ll do a day and when you might finish a resource, and therefore we can’t predict when a subject might come and go across days?

I would think priority would work.  Then they just stay that way unless/until we change them.  I can see how it could be a mess to try and do different order for each day…ugh.  Makes my brain hurt 🙂  Then when a resource is done, it just goes away and number three comes up in two’s place unless the user changes the priority order.  Just my two cents…

As a possible future user, I’m confused as to how this would work. Maybe I’m just so posted paper schedule chart oriented that I’m lost as to why it’s even needed. Not that I don’t want it to be an option for others. But, our routine is different almost every day, yet consistent week by week. Does that make sense? Some subjects stay in a certain place if they are 5x/wk, yet others shift according to other outside the home needs, chore rotation, or Friday is totally different reasons. If we didn’t do Tuesday’s assignment, it moves to Wednesday, but if I have it scheduled for a different time on that day, it seems the CMO would throw that all off in my imagination…assuming the idea behind this option is to print out a daily to do list. I don’t see myself printing out daily/weekly pages. A chart in a central location (read binder) keeps us moving. Am I missing something? I do try to keep up with this type of thread in preparation for possible future use, so I’d like to understand how this option would be useful to me. Would the plan be to “open” the CMO online in the morning and follow it down an ordered subject list, checking off as you go? Or, are you all planning to print lists daily/weekly?

Sorry if I’ve muddied the thread. I’m just a bit confused as to what it solves.

    Dear Doug,

I was simply thinking that the ability to alphabetize or customize the subject order would be great. Nothing needs to bump up after completion or be arranged for individual days, but as Anniepeter mentioned, the list would remain in the same order every day unless we change it. This feature may mean nothing to one user but everything to another. It may be wonderful for older children. Three of my children are independently using the organizer these days from our family computer. They printout their own lists from the CMO whenever they wish. Thank you.

    Your Affectionate CMO User,

What if we combined this with the other request to make it so you can add your own subjects? Then you could have a list of your subjects that can be edited and dragged to set an order.

    Now that sounds NICE!!!
