burkhart, I have both the coolbaby and bum genuis. My little one is small legged and the coolbaby were just to large in the leg hole. I am hoping that once she’s a bit bigger they will work because other than that they look exactly alike.

I love th bum genius and though spendy, my dh can do it easily, my kids can do it and they are very comfy fitting. Also I figured out that I bought 10 BG and it was $170 and if I was to do disposiables it would have cost us $480 a year in diapers so even if I buy another 10 I’m still less for “1 year” and the cloth will last us till our little one is potty trained.

Thanks to everyone for your help and sites they have been awesome. Wish I would have done this before with the other kids

    Misty,

I was just glad to find a forum where someone was actually talking about the coolbaby diapers, they are very obviously not American made, but I got them for $7 per diaper (2 liners each)… so can’t complain.

I am going to be borrowing some that should fit my baby early on, just hope I can find a daycare that will do cloth when I get to needing that!

I actually sewed all mine off of the best pattern I have found to date (poquito pants pattern) and purchased a snap press- even with the added investment still paid off in the long run. Have 2 ds and use disposables when we’re out. Half were waterproof with PUL on the outside and the others that I use more (not as hot) are poly/cotton blend. Best fit ever! My 2 yr old is still using them. I love putting the clean dry ones in the basket – weird I know.

    Misty,

How is your cloth diapering going?

Thanks for asking Shanna I am TOTALLY in LOVE with them. I have 10 and if need will wash them in a day just to have them tomorrow. We did BG and they are great. They fit my little skinny minny to a T. Dad can do it and they are awesome. To the point I even use them when we leave which wasn’t my intention in the beginning I was only going to use at home and then disposables on the go. I would love to get about 10 more but they are a bit spendy and the kids need summer clothes so it will have to wait a bit. But thanks for all the information. I am hooked!

I would love to get some BG’s also but cannot rectify the cost when I have the Coolababies and they fit my children well. Did you keep your coolababies? I know my daughter is quite thin but has wide hips and they fit her well now. She is 3 and maybe 23 or 24 lbs.

Just wanted to say that I have cloth diapered with 7 out of 8 children and when our baby is born in August (2009) we will be using cloth as well. The cottonbabies website is a great resource. They also have a blog. We have used prefolds, fitteds & flats w/wool covers, Bummis organic aios, Fuzzibuns pockets, and I’ve even sewn some myself. They all have their positives and negatives. Aios & pockets are super easy and convenient for away from home and nights. However, they are more expensive. I have some because a good friend used to sell the Fuzzibuns and she gave me some as a baby gift and I picked up 2 Bummi organic aios seconds recently at Cotton Babies. The Bummis are also one size fits all. That’s always a plus when you have a newborn and toddler. Flats are convenient for camping because they dry quickly on a clothes line and they are very inexpensive. Fitteds are especially good for newborns and contain messes well. The majority of our diaper stash is prefolds and wool covers. They are relatively inexpensive, they fit most sizes, they’re great for burp cloths, they can be used with or without a cover, and the best part is that the wool covers are so darn cute! Plus wool is best for baby’s skin. I have tried the really expensive wool covers like Aristocrats and some less expensive wrap style wool covers and I have made my own. We have mostly relied on the ones that I’ve made. We have a lot of wool pants (longies),shorts (shorties)& soakers (pull on covers to wear under clothing)that I have sewn from thrift store sweaters. You can find directions and patterns online. I am also working on knitting some soakers, shorties & longies. You can also find these patterns online for free. You can even teach yourself how to knit online. I learned from knittinghelp.com. Hope this helps someone. Good luck! If you don’t feel confident enough to try making your own there are tons of wahm that make and sell their diapers and covers online.

    Blessings,

Hi Misty! It seems you have your Q answered but I thought I’d chime in anyhow.. 🙂

I have 5 children and have cloth diapered on and off for 7 years straight. Almost 8 now. Wow! I’ve used a number of diapers too but am partial to OS pockets for ease of use and ease of cleaning. 🙂 Which it looks like you went with those. I like BG and Wonderoos and Haute Pockets myself. To me the key to staying with cloth diapers is to allow 1 pack of paper diapers a month. I use cheap ones from Walmart for nights or for baby sitters or whatever whime I have. But just one a month. 🙂 Then I dont burn out. Right now I have 2 in diapers, one at night and 1 package of paper diapers (for each) a month allows us to use them at night and on Sundays and for outings with left overs at the end of the month.. Hope your having fun!
