ModeratorWith all the great summaries available to explain Charlotte Mason methods, there is still no substitute for reading her own words. To be sure, it is not easy reading; yet you will find a rich depth that no summary can give. You can read Charlotte’s original writings, in six volumes, free online.
As you read, feel free to post questions or comments. We’ve created this special forum so you can start topics as needed.
One reminder: it will help if you include the volume and page number to which you are referring in your post.
Enjoy!

ParticipantAnyone interested in starting a study? If so, where should we start?

MemberHi Shanna,
I’m interested, but a bit intimidated I must admit. I’ve put this off for quite a while and been happy gleaning from Sonya, Susan Shaeffer MacAuley and Karen Andreola, but I’m willing to jump in
now 😀 I have no idea where to start, I would just start at the beginning, do you have a better idea?

MemberOn the link that Sonya shared, they also have the modern english translation for those of us not so well versed in the old language. 🙂

ParticipantI might be interested…depending on which volume you start with…and the other details. 🙂

ParticipantI’m also interested. Because of other commitments, I couldn’t commit to a very strenuous reading schedule, but I’ve often wanted to “discuss” with others.

ParticipantI would like to do either Volume 5 or 6. Would you all be interested in starting there?
Mamasong
MemberSounds good! Personally, volume 5 would be fantastic as we are definitely in the throes of tackling some ill-formed habits and trying to replace those with godly character!
Rachel 😀

Memberooooh, yea, let’s do volume 5 – we are in the throws of reversing bad habits as well. Hmm, wonder where they get it? Their mother, in her bathrobe, at the computer, only having 5 hours of sleep (her choice). I’ll never know where they get their bad habits! 🙄

MemberI don’t mind setting up a sort of schedule for Volume 5 – Formation of Character.
Here’s what I am thinking:
the schedule would actually start on Sunday and go week to week – Sunday to Saturday, with a new reading to start on Sunday.
I’m thinking Chapter 1 to start on Sunday. I could not find a good place to stop in Chapter 1, so what about reading Chapter 1 over the 2 weeks?
Also, everyone could read the Preface and all the other introductions before Sunday.
If this sounds good, I’ll come up with the rest of the schedule and post it, but I’d like to hear some thoughts first.
Blessings,
Christine

ParticipantChristine,
I would like to join in…however, I’ll just say that I’ll read and post only as I can, it may not be every week. I just am not promising I can post to each chapter or each question, ya know?
If that is ok, then I’m in! 🙂
CandaceC
ParticipantOh and I’m fine with volume 5 too! 🙂

ParticipantI just saw this topic post today. I’d love to join in with you guys!! I’ve been reading Volume 1 and am almost finished, but really I’m finding that our family is too far gone to begin there 😆 (our youngest is 8)and are needing to, as some of you put it, reverse some ill-formed habits. (I too am still in pj’s sitting at the computer and it’s 3:00 pm 😳 –we did get our school work done, though!!) Anyway, when do you plan on beginning?
Shanna
ParticipantChristine,
A schedule would be great but I would think that a whole chapter a week would be too much. There may even be times it would be too much for two weeks.
How about maybe 2 sections a week? That would take about 12 weeks to get through Volume 5.
mom2five
ParticipantI am interested in joining in as well! 🙂 Will we all begin in Sunday, May 24?
