my 11 year old just started written narrations and they are veyr good.  I am wondering however, if this is the time to point out ways to improve her writing-like do i explain about starting a sentence with a different word rather than using “then”  or using stronger verbs?  I don’t want to stifle her new writing freedom, up until now she has complained about writing-ANYTHING.  But i want her to have good writing skills as well.  any suggestions?

    thanks

Yes, you can start helping her improve her writing now. Focus on just one point at a time, though. For example, you might focus on the beginning word of the sentence, as you mentioned above. Or you might focus on choice of verb. Select just one point, briefly explain it and how it will help strengthen her writing, then start working with her on that point in her narrations. When she has mastered that point, select another one to focus on.
