    Hi moms,

I would like to buy Writng with Ease workbook level one by Susan wise Bauer for my first grader, but not sure yet.

Any suggestion? Does anyone use it before? How would you like it?

    Thanks

I am using it for my 2nd grade son and it is going smoothly, but I can not see him doing it last year. He just didn’t have his penmanship down at all, but if your child cn do copywork without frustration, then it should be just fine. My son loves the narration and he like the snippets of stories too. So far it is going smoothly, but I try not to ask the pointed questions unless he just isn’t narrating on his own well. More times than not, he can narrate great, but on his off days he can usually answer the questions. Only once he couldn’t do either and so I told him that if he could focus when i read then he could copy the passage and then narrate it afterwards. I let him copy a sentence or two then asked if he would like another shot at narrating and of course he jumped at the chance. He has never had problems focusing since. LOL worked like a charm. HTH

I bought the ebook version and since I am doing HWOT for his penmanship, I use their paper for the copywork and thus, I don’t have to print anything out for him. I just print the sentence onto his paper….I have been adding in some dictation for the easier sentences too.

My sister is also using this with a 2nd grader.  She feels it’s somewhat repeatitive, but they plan to finish it out.

I have used it and would agree that it is repetitive.  Level 1 has two choices for copywork, so you could probably use the easier one for 1st grade, although I think 2nd grade would be better for most of it.

Thank you moms for all your input.   I’m actually looking for some workbook on narration for my daughter.  I already have own copywork for her.  Do you have any suggestion like Writing with Ease?

Happy New Year to you all

I can’t link using my phone (or don’t know how) but there is a thread under the Language Arts tag regarding narration vs. writing programs. It is titled Writing Programs and was last updated about four months ago. I enjoyed reading it and it put my mind at ease regarding our language arts decisions.
