Can anyone recommend any good picture books for winter? I need some good light reading for my DD-7 and almost DS-4 1/2. We have The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, and the only other book I found on this site rec’d was Katy and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton. We just read A New Coat for Anna last week. Thanks!
Did anyone mention The Story of Snow by Mark Cassino? Beautiful children’s picture book on the science of snow.
We also loved Snowflake Bentley by J. B. Martin – it won the Caldecott and tells the story of Wilson Bentley and learning how to photograph snowflakes. If memory serves me right he was homeschooled for part of his life.
Thanks! What a great list! If you know of any other non-snow winter books I’d love to hear those too. It looks like there may be a couple here already.
I’m so glad you asked this. I have been keeping my eyes out for such books at the library. We enjoy Jan Brett’s books. Here are two more of similar titles:
The Missing Mitten (she loses her red mitten when she built her snowman and discovers it is the “heart” of the snowman)
and a Mathstart book by Stuart Murphy: Missing Mittens
