  • I am curious to see who all is or has experienced a CM styled co-op? I don’t know of any in my area (central Arkansas) and was thinking of possibly starting one, but wanted some good insight first.

I was thinking meeting once a month would be best. Advice?

    Thanks!

    Here’s a similar previous thread where I shared – http://simplycharlottemason.com/scmforum/topic/co-op-pros-cons#post-21365

I still lead a large CM co-op. We’re making some changes from what you’ll see at the above thread. For 2011-2012 it will look like the following. Probably more info than you need, but I’m copying from my co-op materials for expediency.

Fall Term 2011 Class Dates – Changing to 3 meetings per month.

    September – 8, 15, 22

    October – 6, 13, 20

    November – 3, 10, 17

    December – 1, 8, 15

Family Night – Friday, December 16th

    Spring Term 2012 Class Dates

    January – 5, 12, 19

    February – 2, 9, 16

    March – 1, 8, 15

    April – 5, 12, 19

Family Night – Friday, April 20th

Family Night will be a time of sharing what has been learned during co-op that term. December’s will be followed by a dessert fellowship and April’s by either a dessert or dinner fellowship, tbd later.

    CLASSES

9:00 – 10:30 Handicrafts, Life Skills & Hands-On Learning Classes (Classes based on choices offered, tbd. Sewing, 101 Things Kids Should Know, Hands On Science, etc. These will be broken down a bit by wide age groupings or skill levels. Taught by a team of two teachers with skill in whatever they’re teaching.)

10:30 – 11:40 Family Fine Arts Studies (Study as a family in assigned sub-group for the term. One artist, poet, hymn and composer every two months. One Americana folk song per term.)

11:40 – 12:15 Shakespeare (This will be a select opportunity during this first year.)

    Tchaikovsky

    Hector Berlioz

    Beethoven

    Aaron Copeland

    Artist

We also have Monthly Mom Chat (fellowship) meetings, weekly Park Play Days, field trips each month. In the fall, I’m starting a “Mother Culture” (K. Andreola’s term) type group where we’ll study CM writings and application.
