We are studying the civil war. I have 2 books that I want us/them to read. Which one should we read aloud, Across Five Aprils or Rifles for Watie? On Amazon, Rifles for Watie is considered to be an older middle school to high school level. Is this correct?

My boys are 11 and 8 1/2. Yes, we still have one book we read together! I think I will keep it that way for a while! 🙂 We all enjoy it!

    Thanks!

Good question! We’d do both books either way for that age. I’d say figure out timewise which works best for scheduling as a read aloud.

Thanks for answering! I was going to assign the other to my 11 yr old to read. Just thought one might be better to read aloud! 🙂

Across Five Aprils made it on several of my book lists that I am working on condensing and weeding out. So I would do it simply because of the accolades it has received. HTH.

My DD18 said Rifles for Watie would be her pick. She loved it and wouldn’t want anyone to miss it.
