Since today is the last day of the sale, I would love some recommendations for my ds8 and dd7. While I would love to purchase them all, I am trying to exercise some restraint! My wish list contains The Cottage at Bantry Bay and the others in that series; The Mitchells series; A Day on Skates; Happy Little Family and the others in that series, The Reb and the Redcoats, Enemy Brothers; Red Hugh, Prince of Donegal; and Beorn the Proud. Which ones were your favorites?
The only books we already own from this company are The Winged Watchman by Hilda van Stockum and the titles by Jeanne Bendick. I’ll take other suggestions as well.
HollySParticipantRed Hugh and Beorn have very good reviews…I picked them up for this reason. We haven’t had a chance to read them yet though.
I like to look at what we’ll be studying for the year to help me decide. During the last sale, I picked up A Day on Skates because it would fit nicely with Visits to Europe. I picked up Beorn, Beowulf, and Rolf since they all fit in with our Middle Ages history.
Of the ones that we’ve read, Hittite Warrior is a great choice for Ancients. The Jeanne Bendick biographies are great too (SCM has 3 of them scheduled).
RobinPParticipantWell it dosen’t help to say you can’t go wrong with any of them. Since you have The Winged Watchman I’ll suggest
Beyond the Desert Gate by Ray and others by her
Hittite Warrior by Williamson
God King by Williamson
Beowulf the Warrior by Serrillier
Son of Charlemagne by Willard
Beorn the Proud by Polland
Door to the North by Coatsworth and others by her
Madeleine Takes Command by Brill
The Happy Little Family series by Caudill
Books by Constance Savery
Year of the Black Pony by Morey
Books by Leonard Wibberly
Well…lots more, too, but that might get you started. ?
Salina FedrickParticipantAny suggestion on a good book about Johnny Appleseed?
alphabetikaParticipantI don’t know if this one is available at B. Books, but we really like the picture book Johnny Appleseed by Reeve Lindbergh. It’s in poem form and the illustrations are in a folk art style that is lovely.
HollySParticipantWe’ll be reading Jane Yolen’s Johnny Appleseed book this month…She’s one of my favorite picture book authors.
Salina FedrickParticipantThanks ladies. 🙂
