My son will be in 4th grade this upcoming year and he has successfully completed Print to Cursive Proverbs and has great handwriting in both manuscript and cursive.  I don’t think he needs any additional copywork.  We have been using lined paper that is smaller than what he started with, but isn’t as small as regular notebook paper.  This is the first year he will begin reading independently and will also start writing down some of his narrations a little later in the year.  He will also be needing paper for dictation.  What kind of lined paper do you use at this point?  Do you move straight on to using regular notebook paper?

1/2″ lined paper makes a nice transition to the standard wide ruled, although it can be harder to find.  I really try to stick with their writing abilities.  My experience has been anywhere from 3rd to 6th grade as a good switching point to the standard paper.  My oldest DD was ready much before my lefty DS.

Thanks Holly!  I may just let him try wide ruled paper to see if he feels comfortable with it.  If we do it on our summer break, I will be able to get an idea of what we need to do this upcoming year.  Thanks Holly!
