When do you know if a resource just won't be a great fit?

Just wondering how long you give a resource if you are feeling it won’t be a great fit for your family? Do you usually try to stick it out? Or prefer to replace it at the first inkling so you don’t waste time on it?

I have had many resources that dd has been keen on from the first reading. So when we are 3 or 4 lessons into something new and she isn’t at all interested it makes me wonder if I should be trying to find something else. Or maybe sometimes we have to use the best resource available to us and just suck it up and deal with it?

Hmm.  It depends.  On a lot of things.

How much time is involved here?  One hour a day all year?  Fifteen minutes twice a week for a couple months?

    How unique is the information?

What is the cause of the dislike?  Does the child think it’s too hard?  Too easy?  Too boring?  Does he disagree with it philosophically?

What lesson does the child need to learn most right now?  The info in the book? General stick-to-itiveness?  That life is too short for bad writing?

In 5 years, will one of you regret not finishing it?  Or will one of you still be bemoaning lost time?

It’s complicated.  “It depends.”  What does your dh and your Father say?
