Since I am not going, (sigh)…..my sister has offered to pick up some things for me. YEAH. Wondering what you all are looking forward to buying at the Convention (besides ALL things SCM, of course)?

Hoping there are deals on WYAM Christian heroes Then & Now Books

Doorpost (seems like there are materials to help with Habit training)

    Thanks!

I’ve never been to a convention.  Not only is it too difficult to get away with little ones, none of the classes seem interesting enough to justify the cost and hassle of going…not to mention the migraine that would be sure to develop after being around a crowd all day!  Instead, the past few years I’ve invested in a book or two to renew and inspire me.  This year I’m reading through Penny Gardner’s CM Study Guide, The Living Page, and Consider This.  I’ve also been re-reading Planning Your CM Education (from SCM).

I already placed a SCM order for history module 4 and the two new science guides.  We’ll be using the Burgess Bird guide this coming year.  I think we’ll also be using Signs and Seasons (a classical astronomy program). Everything else will be staying the same…I love how CM materials are often used over multiple years, so there’s less to buy each year.

I am so excited for our convention! SCM will not be there (bummer) but always fun to check out the used book sale!

I am always so encouraged when I go. At ours 95% of the seminars are about family, not even so much about HSing, but about building strong Godly families. My DH goes on Saturday with me and last year one of the seminar speakers was an ex fighter pilot and my DH really enjoyed hearing him talk about being a strong Godly leader for his family.

I grew up being HSed and my mom’s favorite thing was the conference. Gave her the boost and encouragement to get ready for the next year. My dad liked to go and visit with the other dads.

I like going to the conference to handle the new books!  *L*  SCM won’t be at ours this year (CHAP)  *boo-hoo*  🙁  So I won’t be able to LOOK at the books I’m wanting to buy from SCM (has me quite bummed).

But I’m still going because there are some decisions that just have to be made while the books are in my hands.

This year I’m wanting to buy a spelling curriculum and of course,  I have a shopping list of good books to buy.

SCM will be at our state convention! 😀 I can’t wait to get my hands on all the new products and see them for myself.

I’m planning on buying Signs And Seasons classical astronomy and Math U See pre algebra-well ordering it with free shipping at least.

That about covers my planned purchases. I buy less in the exhibit hall every year. Using real books that are often hard to find means that I order most of mine online.

I am really looking forward to the time away and hearing Sonya’s newest talks in person.

Sarah… The Denver conference?  If I am able to go, maybe we could meet!  That would be so much fun to meet someone from here!!

I’m not sure what, if anything, I will be able to buy this year.  Things are pretty tight, and I am fortunate enough to have collected enough already through the years, that we’ll be fine if I don’t… Other than my unfounded feelings of deprivation!!

I just recently attended Teach Them Diligently in Nashville. Got to hash out some things with Sonya which is always wonderful! She ran out of an item before I got to hit the booths, so I will have to purchase online. Other than CM items a treat I purchased were Queens cursive copywork books for my daughter. She absolutely loves them! They are full of beautiful colored artwork which makes them pricey, so it is a splurge.

We have a curriculum fair at the end of July, and I need to get some things from Rainbow Resource. I failed to make a list of all I need for next year before the convention, and I will have to do that before the curriculum fair.

I love going to convention at least every few years.  This year my oldest daughter (age 13) and my mom are coming with me.  We leave in less than 24 hours for the Cincinnati GHC!  (We aren’t attending Thursday, just all day Friday and Saturday).  What non SCM items am I picking up at convention?

One Year Adventure Novel.  Maybe the sequel Other Worlds as well if there is a good convention discount.

Math U See student books for most of the kids (I have the teacher’s manuals and dvds.)

Those are the big ones.  Beyond that I have a discretionary budget for whatever the spirit nudges me to get.  My daughter has done babysitting and earned nearly $100 she plans to spend on books.  🙂

Anyone else going to be there this week?

We attended TTD Nashville in March.  What was I excited to purchase?

SCM’s Bible History and Geography Module 3 and the other SCM accessories to this study

SCM’s Learning About Birds with Thornton Burgess

3 SCM Picture Study Portfolios (Michaelangelo, da Vinci, and Giotto)

SCM’s book of centuries and Emily Dickinson Poetry guide

Beautiful Feet’s Geography and 3 books (Seabird, Minn of the Mississippi, and A Tree in the Trail) by Holling C. Holling

a yellow Homeschooler’s Journal (also known as Mama’s plan book) –I’m a pen and paper kind of woman!

4 Lamplighter Theatre Audios (Charlie’s Choice, Sir Malcolm and the Missing Prince, The White Gypsy, and Buried in the Snow)

assorted books for my children to enjoy–The Jungle Doctor series, books by Jeanne Bendick and G.A. Henty

I must say that the Vendor Hall was overwhelming, but I really did enjoy Sonja’s session on Laying Down the Rails even though I’ve watched the DVD several times.  She’s a good speaker and I learn something new every time I listen to her.

I must add that as a result of one of the sessions (Homeschooling when life is Hard???) I went to at Teach Them Diligently-Nashville, I just purchased The DIY Breakfast Station combo pack by Kim Sorgius at http://www.notconsumed.com.

For $9.50 I got  recipes, shopping lists, labels and instructions on making 2-3 months of meals and setting up a DIY Breakfast Station with for my family.  My ds8 and dd6 are excited about making their own breakfast.  I’m hoping this helps our mornings go smoother.

I’ll be at the TTD in Dallas! So far my list is as follows:

    –Hymns in Prose
    –Outdoor Secrets & Companion
AND something I have been wanting since hearing Sonya speak at TTD last year and holding it in my hands…
–Laying Down The Rails – The Main Book and the set for Children

–Song School Latin 2 if Classical Academic Press is there. (Maybe, depends on how far along we are in book 1. I have not been as consistent with lessons as I should be.)

Hoping to save the money from Craigs List/Face Book sales to fund my convention purchases so that it won’t dent our budget. 🙂
