I’m getting the jump on this post while I have a sleeping baby.  How did your week go last week?  Who has planned school for the week ahead?  Feel free to share!

Last week went wonderfully well for our first week back to some school after baby.  Tobias napped conveniently during part of each morning when we do school.  We reviewed math, did science, and read literature.  The 5th grade and under crowd loved our first week learning about the human body.  We built a paper child to introduce many of the organs and body systems, read in God’s Design for Science, played fun games like Simon Says where they had to touch or move certain body parts that we named only by their bones (ex: pat your patella, move your mandible, wiggle your phalanges).  Makayla and I slogged through almost an entire module of Biology together (fungi, not her favorite topic) and enjoyed it.  Usually she works pretty independently on biology but we decided for December I would team up with her and it was really nice to be able to do that.

Next week our plan looks exactly the same!  Math review, read literature, and science.  We are keeping it simple for December and getting our routine built again.

Other news from this week – my fourth child, Daniel, was baptized today!  It was a wonderful day and I’m so grateful he made the decision to be baptized.  He’s my sweet and super smart 8 year old.  He’s been amazing me since he was tiny and taught himself to read chapter books at age 3.  I’ve been racing to keep up with him ever since.

One more happy thing from this week – tomorrow Tobias is a month old!  It always flies so quickly.  He’s a happy baby with a decent sleep routine.

It is always so nice to hear about your week and plans!

We do have school planned as I need to fit in as any days as I can when we are able as we usually take a long summer break.  Plus we have many short days for appointments and such as well.

I am having my oldest two, Kori and Kaleb, trying to finish up Analytical Grammar before Christmas.  It is going to be tight but we have two units left to go.  We finished Around the World in Eighty Days for our Geography study and are finishing up Peru and the Amazon rain forest as well  and then for  the rest of December we are mainly reading Christmas books.  We read Silent Night the Story about the Song; which was really neat and we sang the first verse in German.  We are also reading Ishtar’s Odyssey for Advent.  This is the first year I have made the time to read Christmas books during advent season and we are all enjoying it.

Kori still struggles with math but we keep plugging away with her.  I wish there was some way for me to help her remember better but if there is I certainly haven’t figured it out.  She has the most difficult time with fractions.  We go over it and she says she gets it and two days later she forgets an important step and gets most of the problems wrong.  DH says its because creative minds are not mathematical.  And she is very creative.  At the end of this post I will post a picture of something she drew last week.  She is gifted in that area and it is her passion.

Kameron on the other hand is flying through his math.  He is doing CLE and is on book 205 already.  Two of the books he took the test half way through the book and passed so I had him go on to the next book.  He just finished reading Little House in the Big Woods by himself as well.

Kori is reading David Copperfield (I am reading it at the same time so I can discuss it with her). Kaleb is still working on King Arthur and Karrigan is reading The Secret Garden (but she also reads anywhere from two or three other books at the same time).

We continue with catechism and writing with Karrigan.  After Christmas when the older two are done with AG they will begin writing and Karrigan will start AG jr.  I hope everyone has a good week!

The reference chart for CLE is helpful during lessons.  My dd forgets at times too.
