I am interested in investing in some World History audios next year. My children and I enjoy Jim Weiss immensely and he recorded The Story of the World volumes.

However, it seems from whaty I’ve read on this forum that Bauer’s recordings have no BIblical tie-in as Waring’s recordings do.

Can someone elaborate for me on the differnces, pros and cons of the two choices, please?

    Thanks,

    Goodmorning Rachel,

I think it depends on how old your dc are. Jim Weiss is a great story teller so SOW seems more “alive” when he reads it. However, you’re right, there are no biblical tie-ins. My 8yo likes to listen to SOW but my 13yo gets bored with it and would much rather listen to Diana Waring. Remember, though, that she is not telling stories as much as biblical & historical accounts that “tie-in”. IMO the content in Dianas CD’s are geared for older dc (maybe 10 & up) and adults. However, younger ones could still benefit but may not grasp as much.

Diana is an absolute joy to listen to, we have learned so much from her and are amazed at how she brings history and the Bible together in a way that makes sense. One thing we’ve noticed is after listening to her, there is always something that sparks discussion. Days after listening we’ll still be talking about history and bible. I can honestly say that SOW has never sparked discussion. “What in the World” and “True Tales” CDs have really gotten our family to “think” and weigh biblical truth; this is priceless.

    Have a beautiful day, Rachel!

My children are 8 and 8 1/2; they are used to listening to either dramatized or straight-up reads. They respond fairly equally to both.

I think I will go with the Waring ones, as the Biblical worldview in W.His. is very important to me; what ever they don’t get initially, they will as time goes on. I’m not doing direct W.His. yet, I just want the exposure when the opportunity presents itself, then the material isn’t foreign to them when we do did in; also it wets teir curiousity.

I’ll save my Weiss money for some of his other cd’s.

    Thanks much,

    Rachel

I have never heard the SOW recordings. However, we own the Waring sets and I can honestly say that if we had to keep only one thing for history and absolutely nothing else, I would keep these. My oldest dd used to listen to them over and over and could give a complete narration of world history from creation to now for anyone who would care to listen. It was just incredible!

    I think they are fabulous.

    Christine
