Good morning ladies!  I am already beginning to look at some of the book suggestions for our history for the next school year.  We will be doing SCM Middle Ages, Rennaissance, Reformation & Epistles.   I was making a list of books I need to purchase to go along with this period.  I was surprised to see that the Visits to series was not listed at all.  Usually it is mentioned in the books that are recommended and “Where to find the books” section.  Does anyone know if there have been any changes to this series?  I think I remember the SCM team saying there were eventually going to be changes made to some of the Visits to series.  Thank you!

SCM has updated the first 3 guides (Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome) to include Visits To (and changed some of the books) but it has not made changes to SCM Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation & Epistles (or Early American/World and Modern American/World)

What we do is replace the Geography day listed in the guide with a Visits to… lesson. It works seamlessly!

We did Visits to Europe with Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation and really enjoyed it, but they don’t have to line up exactly if there is a location that would interest your family more at this time

To find the book lists for Visits To… go to it in the Bookstore and if you look at the sample you are interested in do it will give a full book list for each grade and family studies.

Okay, I want to make sure I am understanding you.  When you come to the Visits to (Geography) portion, you just substitute another Visits to book instead?  We combined two SCM History/Bible/Geography years into one this year. So, we did did Joshua – Malachi & Ancient Greece the first half of the year and after Christmas we will start Matthew – Acts & Ancient Rome.  We were planning to start our Visits to Europe study after Christmas with Ancient Rome.  I am wondering if I should just stretch it out or wait until next year to do Europe???  What would you do?  I wonder if they will have the Visits to series updated by the next school year???

In the history guide for Ren/Reff, Early American/World, & Modern American/World it does not have Visits To… written into the guides. It uses different geography with map drills and living books. Since SCM introduced Visits To series I replace the suggested geography from the history guide with a Visits To… lesson.

I am not sure. We do Visits To… once/week so the entire book takes one school year to complete.

It is up to you. You could continue with Visits to Europe as you study Rome or take a break from geography and focus on history only for the rest of the year. You can’t really do it “wrong” just what works for your family.

Just what I needed!  Thanks Sarah2106!  I actually remember coming across this last year and at the time I was brand new to SCM and was doing Genesis – Deuteronomy & Ancient Egypt!  I started looking ahead for next year and realized things were a little different 🙂  Thanks so much!

Sonya is currently in the process of revising the history guides for Middle Ages/Renaissance & Reformation, Early Modern, and Modern to change the geography lessons from what they are now to Visits to lessons, and to revise some of the books used for the history study. We do not have release dates yet, but hope to have them available sometime in 2017.

Karen, that is great news!  A big thank you to the SCM team.  I will be looking forward to seeing all the updated materials.
