My son is just getting into video recording.  We have no editing experience, but would like to invest in something to get him started.  We have an ipad and a pc.  Have you experience with a quality beginner user friendly editing tool?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My son, 13, has also begun videography or his own vollition. The two he just began using, at the advice of my audio-engineer husband, are:

    Wondershare

    and

    Windows Movie Maker

Neither of these have green-screens; but that’s a more advanced option anyway. If you have any questions, I’ll have to ask my husband and get back with you.

If he’s shooting on the iPad, you might look at iMovie. There’s also Pinnacle Studio on the iPad that I’ve heard some good things about. It looks like you can also get Pinnacle for PC, though I haven’t tried that one to say how well it works. Friends I’ve talked to who have used Windows Movie Maker usually tell me that they wish they had something else.

While he’s just starting out, the best thing that he can do is learn the basics of editing. It’s not so much the tools that make the editor, but the skills that are important.

We play with iMovie on iPad and Mac.
