Hello!  I have only 1 child, a 9th grader studying Module 4 (Middle Ages, Rennaissance, Reformation), which she chose!  So far everything has been going well, but I find the Louise Vernon books to be a little light for high school, and since she’s the only one doing it, no younger siblings, I wondered if there was other books anyone could recommend for high school level to replace some of the other Vernon books in Module 4 (The Man Who Laid the Egg, Bibble Smuggler, Thunderstorm in the Church)?

Thanks for any input you can give!

do you happen to have All through the Ages? My copy isn’t nearby, or I’d look up some titles.

The Vernon books aren’t difficult reads, but I, as an adult, learned much from them. There may be more challenging books on the same topics and AttA mentioned above is perfect to find them. However, don’t negate the learning value of a simpler, well-written book. There are times when even a child’s picture book is all we need on a topic. If your child is very familiar with the people in the Vernon books, then more challenging or different books are in order. However, if the people covered are new or unfamiliar, then these can fit the bill quite nicely.

    I agree with Christie.

Our youngest son enjoyed them last year. He was 12-13 at the time. We all learned quite a bit. If he were going to read them for next year, I’d still think they’d suit him well.
