So it is a little late to be bringing this up! But I am known for being late!

Every yr we get the boys a special treat w/ a small gift. One year we hid the gifts and they had to read a poem..that I made up..to locate the gifts. They really liked this! We usually complete a valentine crossword and read a poem about love.

And usually the hubby and I make cards/poems for each other and that is that! I love his poems/cards …mine…not so good! But I do try! 🙂

I am looking for some ideas on what you do on this special day for your family! I won’t be going to the store today so hopefully it will include something I already have here! LOL

And if it is store related 🙂 please feel free to share anyways! Maybe just maybe I will start planning now for next year! LOL!

    Happy Valentines, Friends!

What about making a word search, the words are things you love about your kids/husband? (haven’t done this yet, don’t know how long it takes)  Or a fill-in-the-blanks card with the same idea…things you love about each person? Could you “borrow” a poem from another poet for your husbands card? We are doing Robert Louis Stevenson and similar poets, so I’m no help with a particular suggestion. We’ve done homemade coupons in the past as well.

One year I cut up a bunch of red, pink and white paper hearts of various sizes and trailed them up the front steps, like foot prints. Probably quite a few heart shaped food ideas out there too (other than cookies), I’ve heard of heart shaped pizza, pancakes, toast/sandwhiches (use cookie cutter). Chocolate pudding would be fast. My kids are younger (7 and under) this year the older too have been working on a construction paper heart banner with Bible verses, we are having large soft pretzels with cheese (I’m adding veggies in on the side) and each child is getting a small toy animal (dd is a rabbit, who will wear a tag “Some bunny loves you”). i bought my husband a cd, and I have no idea what he made me, but there was sawing last night and I can’t go in the garage. Usually we are not so prepared for Valentines Day though. Hope you get some good ideas!!!

i just had another idea! You could look up the words (things you like about them) in the dictionary and use three or four to make a mini booklet/card…. Have one word per page for example “cheerful” with the definition, then another on the next page, and so on, the last page say something indicating that the words are a description of them. Hopefully that made sense, it’s seems a good idea, in my head anyway! Who knows if it came out in a understandable manner.

We always read the true story of St. Valentine – usually this one since they have it at our library:

Thanks ladies! I made heart pancakes this morning! 🙂 I don’t like dye..so I used beet powder to color them! I alternated pink and white pancakes..pink heart inside a white pancake!Pink pankcake/White heart..or whatever color pancakes are..LOL! They loved them! We also had stawberry yogurt.

I had already picked out a puzzle for each. And then I took your advice morgrace and made a wordsearch for them both! I found a site that created the search in a shape! And listed qualities about each of them to hunt for! Thanks! 🙂

These would involve a trip for the store, but I made them Valentine robots:

    We are also playing a Valentine’s Minite-To-Win-It game: http://stacyjulian.com/blog/?p=6710

And I made these sugar cookie bars…I’ll be adding some conversation hearts to decorate them: http://www.highheelsandgrills.com/2012/08/sugar-cookie-bars.html

And this will be the end of my Pinterest activities for awhile!  Wink
