Is it okay to start anywhere in the history modules?  I am interesteed in exposing my daughter (age 7) to some American history in the early elementary years. Can we jump into the SCM guide 5 without doing the first 4?

Yes, it’s up to you!  You’ll be cycling through again, so it really doesn’t matter.  Many people have younger siblings jumping in as they get older, so kids often start at different spots but will get it all at some point:)  Gina

I chose module 5 last year because it was our first year of CM methods and the SCM history modules. This way, my youngest two will get to go through modules 5 & 6 one more time before they graduate, and there is just too much “fun stuff” in both American and World History during the Early Modern Times for me to pass up the elementary books and materials! (Okay, and it’s my favorite era of history to study…Wink)

We’re using Module 4 (Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation, & Epistles) this year.  We’ve never used SCM’s guides before AND our last year’s history was from 1849-WWI.  However, we’ve never covered this time period so we decided this was where we wanted to begin with SCM.  We’ve done about a month of the guide (did it in may before switching to basics for the summer) and start back up in 8 days.  The kids are thrilled to get back to their history studies – they love the books.

Thank you for asking this, we are starting our first year with CM and based on our DD’s (7) interests/questions, we also decided to start with this module 🙂  That said, I’m a little confused and anxious about doing this!!  I’m wondering if I’ve mistakenly set our high school years off course??  I know most high schools cycle through American history, etc at that point, is this because of general college requirements??  Just wondering what the “seasoned” families who may use CM have to say about this 🙂  I know we have years before we need to actually worry about college, yet I followed the Planning Your CM Education planner for our year, and it has really opened my eyes to where we are possibly going with our homeschool journey in the future.  In a GOOD way, of course–I love the planner! 🙂  Thanks for any thoughts you have to share!!
