I have been looking over the Using Language Well books. I am wondering if it will be sufficient to just use the Using Language Well books and skip Analytical Grammar? I want my kids to have the grammar they need for highschool and college if college is what they need, but I am fi e adding in Jensen’s Grammar or something like that in high school if I need to add to ULW. Although, I would rather just use ULW.

    Thank you,

    Grace

AG is listed as optional.  I’m perfectly okay with just ULW, and that’s what my high schoolers are doing.  The only thing AG would add would be extra practice with grammar, as well as introducing sentence diagramming.  ULW uses parsing instead of diagramming.  Both accomplish the same goal in my opinion. Parsing is just a bit less visual and less time consuming.

If you are adding Latin (or another foreign language), they will get more grammar through that.  We are using Cambridge Latin.

Thank you Holly.  What level of ULW are you using?

I was wondering if anyone from the SCM team could chime in also?

    Hi Grace,
I was going to add yesterday but Holly covered it well.  We only suggest Analytical Grammar for those families who believe their children need extra practice with grammar and would like to introduce diagramming.  It is not essential by any means.
