Using Get Smart Grammar for parts of speech & Using Language Well

    We are currently using Using Language Well and Spelling Wisdom for my 5th grader.  I have been planning to use Get Smart Grammar for parts of speech and to teach sentence diagramming next year (his 6th grade year).   Has anyone used Get Smart Grammar for parts of speech and still continued with Using Language Well?  We love Using Language Well.  It covers mechanics and so much more.  Can we continue using it for everything else and just do Get Smart Grammar for parts of speech?  Just trying to sort all this out so I can have a plan.   Thanks in advance!

    Yes you can combine if you want to. That is what we did last year and it worked great. We did one Get Smart lesson per week and kept with ULW twice a week.

    You didn’t mention which Using Language Well book you are using. I’m guessing you are using Book 1? If so, please note that Book 2 and Book 3 of Using Language Well teach parts of speech. The student will parse sentences, but Using Language Well does not have diagramming.

    Yes, Karen, he is in book 1.  He will be in book 2 next year.  I really wanted to teach sentence diagramming and wanted to use Get Smart Grammar to do so, but wanted to continue with Using Language Well 2 too.
