We are using Mavis Beacon Typing program.  I will be starting my oldest after Christmas when he turns 9.  Mavis Beacon allows me to set certain guidelines like how many spaces should be between sentences (1 or 2).  I was always raised with 2 spaces between sentences but things have changed and I am out of the loop.  I can also decide if I want my son to be able to go back and edit on his timed work.  Do any of you ladies have any suggestions for typing guidelines?  What are you doing with your kiddos?

We use Mavis Beacon as well.  Ours is set for 1 space, but I had no idea you could change this, although you may have a different edition than me.  I’ll have to look and see if I can change this on ours!  I think editing would be more similar to typing in the “real world”, so I’d go with that option.

For practice after MB, I just have them type their written narrations.  They prefer to type instead of writing by hand…although we usually do a bit of both.  My older DC email their friends and family, which gives them more practice.

Yes, HollyS, I have the newest family edition that I downloaded online.  There is a management section and within that section, you can select “preferences”.  There are so many things I hadn’t thought about.  I really wasn’t sure about if I wanted him to be able to go back and edit on his timed exercises.  I like the idea of him correcting his mistakes as well.  I realize it would affect his gwam, but accurant typing is important!
