    What age have you started teaching typing and what computer programs would you recommend for teaching a younger child to type?

    I start around 3rd or 4th grade and just use the BBC’s free online typing program (dancemat).  :)Gina

    We started SLOWLY in 1st grade using Typing Instructor for Kids.

    We let them start when ever they are ready.  They love the look of the program and want to try.  My 2nd grader started on the Typing Instructor (not the kids the Deluxe) and has progressed steadily.  If they don’t start on their own we do it in 3rd grade.
