Ok. I’m trying to pick my hymn study book.  I got lots of ideas before and have looked at them all.  Now I need to know which one to get.  My 2 choices I am trying to pick from are: Hymns for a Kids Heart & Then Sings My Soul.  Both have books and CD’s from what I understand.  They both have information on the hymn and the CD then to hear the songs.

For those who have one of these can you tell me what you like or dont’ like.  also, if you have both what the major difference is?  Thanks Misty

We have Then Sings My Soul.  It has a hymn per two page spread.  The music on the left and the write up about it on the right.  We learn one hymn per month and read the write up sometime during the month.  If we don’t know the tune we can play it on our keyboard using the music.  I did not know it had a CD.  Do you know where you can get that?  The hymns are listed in chronilogical order by when they were written.  I really like it.

We also have The Christmas Cd by Joni — Is that who does Hymns for a Kids Heart?  We enjoyed the Christmas one and we would read the story at the dinner table and everyone had to guess which Christmas hymn she was writing about.  Then we would sing the hymn or listen to it.

I guess I like both of them but Then Sings My soul has more hymns — they Hymns for Christmas only had about 10 or so.

Hope this helps you in some way,

We have Hymns for a Kids Heart. There is a 2 page or so write up about the hymn writer followed by the hymn. It includes the cd and music. We have a couple of these and really like them. They are also available for purchase elsewhere. Very simple.

We also have the Mr. Pipes series which I’ve read and really like, but haven’t used with the kids yet.

Susq- I thought it had a CD, but after your post I will have to double check cause without it I’d be lost, we don’t know how to play the music (no piano here except VERY beginners).

I was leaning toward the Kids Hearts ones, so I will have to check ebay and craiglist to see if I can find them cheaper somewhere.

Thanks for the ohter suggestions Misty
