I am looking at doing American History with my daughters this coming school year, I’m wondering which guide you would use TruthQuest or Beautiful Feet? My daughters are 4, 6, and 9.

If you have experience with either of these, please let me know.

    Thanks!

We have enjoyed the BF guides for 15 years now. The only one I took issue with was the Ancient History for highschoolers in a particular book selection, though I realize now that one could alter their plan a bit. I purchased a couple of the TQ guides for my older ones two years ago and the one that did the Ancient History (Egypt, Greece, Rome in one year), was a bit overwhelmed. I too, find them a little overwhelming because I struggle when there are too many choices. This past year I did more of the SCM style and just selected books from various sources for the K-6 crowd with oral/written narrations. That worked well, but I do know that TQ has a good commentary to read along with. Heather uses TQ and loves it; perhaps she can chime in here. I plan on going back to BF this next year for most or all of the children.

    Blessings,

We have used TQ Amer. Hist 1 (elementary) and are planning to use vol 2 this year. I really enjoy the way the program is laid out, it’s very flexible. Basically there are multiple topics available in each year’s plan, with a brief commentary provided by the author and an EXTENSIVE booklist for further reading. We utilize the library for most of our books and, although I agree with CindyS about struggling to make choices, I like having the freedom to pick or not pick certain topics/books throughout the year. I can’t comment on BF since we haven’t used it, but we do utilize almost all the same books for Amer. Hist in the elementary grades plus TQ provides a great list of additional books/alternative books to choose from as well.

    HTH,

    Caryn
