I’ve collected a few Landmark books here and there as I found them for super cheap.  Last week I got a big lot of them for $10 at a book sale, and suddenly my collection when from half a dozen to about 30, and I’m not sure if I really want to keep them.  Are we really ever going to read “Peter Stuyvestant of Old New York” or “General Brock & Niagara Falls”?  I know they’re good books…it’s just a lot of books.  Please talk me into (our out of!) keeping them.

I feel the exact same way about a bunch of Childhood of Famous Americans I found discarded from a public library.  They seem like such treasures to me, but I wonder if anyone will actually read them.  I am going to hang onto mine for a while and see if any of my kids will read them as they get a bit older.  My son has really taken a great interest in American history within the past two years.  He is 10 now.  How old are your kids?  I am find him reading much more this summer than in the past.

If you do decide to sell any, I am interested.

I just heard a speaker talking about the Landmark books at the HS conference this past weekend. She said even as an adult she is enjoying reading them. She also mentioned she prefers the ones from the 1950’s – 1960’s but has not read much of the more recent ones. I was thinking it would be fun to add some Landmark books to our collection; but often wonder how many good books is too many (or are there too many)Smile

We have 140+ Landmark books. My children love them and are making a contest to see who reads them all first. I think around age 12 they become more interested in them especially the books about WWII. My favorite one is Thirty Seconds Over Toyko.

We LOVE Landmark and Childhood of Famous Americans books!  I read somewhere that if you did nothing for history but read the Landmark series, you would have a far better understanding of history than most Americans.

I recently did a post on the CoFA series….

My vote would be to keep them….but that’s coming from a bibliophile with a few thousand books lurking around the house :))

We probably have a few thousand books already too!  Just not sure how many is too many.  We have a pretty good collection of COFAs too, but I remember reading and loving those as a kid so they have some sentimental value too.  My oldest is 8 and she loves the COFAs.
