Are you doing any Science? Any poetry/picture/composer studies? Geography? What, specifically, are you doing for English?
I have a 4th grader who finishes by noon most days (probably 3 hours worth of work). By 7th-8th, though, I might expect that he would carry over into the afternoon some.
My 1st grader, of course, is done in an hour or so.
Checking the free curriculum guide on this site might enlighten you:
I’d think your 7th and 8th graders should have a longer day. Are you doing Science? What is English composed of? Does everybody do oral narrations? Do 4th-7th graders do written narrations/dictations? Is literature included for all? Are the middle schoolers doing grammar? Are you doing Bible?
How about geography? This doesn’t take much time. If it were me, I’d make sure those things were in place. Then if you’re wanting to do the CM things like artists, composers, poetry, handicrafts, etc. they can be added in. I find they do take some discipline from me, but really don’t take a lot of time. Though with 8 kids I imagine time is always lacking! I hope that helps some:) Blessings, Gina
