Ok ladies! I have been researching timelines and trying to find the best one for my family’s needs next year. Here is what I know I want:
-a blank accordion folded style made of durable material that can be stored and taken out as needed
-preferably I would like to have the the actual line already drawn on, but I will do it if needed.
– I hope to also have a line or something drawn to divide it into basic periods of time so the kids can grasp what ancient times are versus middle ages, etc.
– something that will not take me hours to make. 🙂
So, do you have suggestions for material, or even a personal example of something similar? Or is there one out there to buy like this? I would love to see it and know how you used it.
Thanks!
HeatherParticipantI have just ordered this from Geography Matters. It is laminated, you can add whatever you want to it i.e pictures, notes, etc. and you can even write on it with dry erase markers. It seems to be the answer to my timeline troubles, maybe it can help you too!
simple homeMemberThank you Heather! I considered this one as well. I like the simplicity and durability of it, but I think my brain needs to see history unfold in a straight horizontal line. That is why i am leaning toward folded timeline option. I will keep this one in mind if my accordion style idea doesn’t pan out like I need.
houseofchaosParticipantYou could make your own on cardstock or posterboard (I am not sure what size you are looking for) and then have it laminated with a small space in between sheets so you can fold it accordion style…. it would really just be a line with dates, right?
HeatherParticipantI think the description for the geography matters timeline said you can cut it into strips to make a horizontal timeline out of it as well!
simple homeMemberHouseofchaos, yes, it is just a line with dates. I hope to put some timeline figures with it as well. Thanks!
Heather, I never thought of that. I will look into that before doing one from scratch. Thanks to you too!
aliceParticipantHas anyone ever done a timeline with younger kids? I heard of an idea where you can do a timeline of your child’s life. Or rather the life of the family. Having dates such as when mom and dad got married, and babies were born. Significant things your child would have a personal connection with. It would be a timeline on a very small scale so kids can have a chance of understanding it better before it stretches over large periods of time.
