At the request of another member, here is a link to a post I did a while ago regarding the tie pillows our dd makes.

The pillows make great gifts and go well with the ever popular tie blankets. It’s an easy handicraft for younger children.
BTW, we just went to the fabric store last night and bought the supplies for the SCM Handicraft Hand Sewing DVD. We are all very excited 🙂 I plan to complete the projects along with our 12th and 4th grade girls. Our 3rd grade son also begged for fabric. He wants to make a new pillow case using the running stitch.
The girls watched the first segment of the DVD and both commented on how professional and pretty Rebecca Shafer is. Thanks SCM team for producing these handicraft videos. We’ll be completing “Crochet” after “Hand Sewing”. I’ll post updates on the blog 🙂
Blessings,
Melissa
cherylramirezParticipantThanks for posting this!
TailorMadeParticipantThis is just the kind of project our youngest daughter needs right now. Thanks for sharing!
PhoboParticipantThanks for sharing!

missceegeeParticipantCute pillow!
We just bought supplies for the hand sewing dvd, too. Dd12, dd6, even ds9 (albeit begrudgingly), and i are going to do the projects. Ds9 realizes some rudimentary sewing skills aren’t a bad thing to know, but he’s still not thrilled.
Wings2flyParticipantThanks. We are planning to do the handsewing dvd soon. Right now we are doing a kit for beginners of canvas and yarn to frame. Ds 9 is not very excited either, but I explained that it can be a helpful skill to know at some point. Leatherworking uses basic stitching, and he is interested in that.
jeaninpaParticipantMy boys didn’t realize they would like sewing until they actually did it. All four of my sons LOVED it! I hope you’ll have the same reaction.
Sonya ShaferModeratorThanks, Melissa. I’ll pass along your children’s kind words to Rebekah.
As a sneak peek, we’re planning to announce a new Handicrafts DVD this week. Stay tuned!
Wings2flyParticipantHas anyone used the book, Buckles & Bobbins, with their boys for sewing? It looks promising to me: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4489747-buckles-bobbins?from_search=true
Sonya, I am sitting on pins and needles!
Doug SmithKeymasterSonya, I am sitting on pins and needles!
No pins or needles needed for the new item you’ll find on the Handicrafts Made Simple page.
sherazParticipantLooks exciting! How fun for Rebekah to work with her grandfather on this one.
Wings2flyParticipantThanks, Doug. That does look great and I’m sure we will use it one day, but my kids are too young for that one yet. I am glad to see the addition to this wonderful series.
