Hi, I am very much enjoying getting into a comfortable routine with our schoolwork and our day (as much as is possible with 5 girls under 6!) using the SCM plan.  My oldest is just starting first grade this year so this is the first time I feel like I have to be keeping track of what we do, in a way that someone besides myself can understand.  I live in Idaho which is just about as relaxed as you can get for homeschooling, so I don’t really have to worry about that too much.

I am just wondering what the rest of you do for scheduling and keeping track of what gets done. If you print the Daily Plan from the organizer do you keep it in a folder or something with the rest of your planning stuff? Or just toss it? If you don’t keep it, then do you have something on paper that you can glance at (like a weekly overview) to let you know kind of where you are?

I’m still trying to figure out the best way to handle all this planning business. 🙂 There is just so much paper going around in our house and I don’t want to unnecessarily create more, kwim?

    Thanks,

    Michaela

    Hi Michaela!

At this time, I do the daily plan online.  (I use workboxes so the night before I setup the workboxes with everything to do.)  If my kids were older an a lot more independant, I might print off the daily plan for them to keep track of and plan their day….    Right now, after the day is done, I come and mark off what was done.    As I’m doing it online, obviously I’m not keeping printouts of the daily plan.

That said – even if you printed them out, there isn’t much point of keeping them, as the Detailed Report will give you all the info you are likely to need, and you can print that out at the end of the year.

As for the kind of keeping an idea on where we are….  I am trying a system out this year, kind of based on what I did last term (when I started using the organizer.)   First for my planning, I use the “Planning your CM Education”…. so I know what I am hoping to have my kids finish each term.   I have setup myself as an extra student in the organizer, and I’ve created resources called  1st Term – Start.  1st Term – Midpoint.  1st Term – Finish.  (and the same for the 2nd and 3rd term.)   Then I’ve scheduled these to me as Teacher Resources, scheduled to start at the appropriate times.  (ie, the midpoint is 6 weeks into our 12 week term.) – I also have an extra week to allow for some leeway.

So, midway through the term, (and more often if I feel the need), I can have a look at about where I thought we should be, and compare it to where we are.   Then I can do things like schedule a resource more (or less) often, decide to remove a resource, or make other adjustments..

One thing I would like (hm, don’t know if I’ve suggested it or not)….   is one other view, more for general planning than for specific daily/weekly planning.   Right now we can see the scheduled resources organized by subject.  It would be helpful for me to be able to (at times) see the scheduled resources organized by the day of the week.  Not the specific assignments, but just the resources… and possibly seperating the ones currently being used from the future resources (starting at a later date, or after a current resource)  something like…….

    Current Resources:

    Monday

    Beginner Reading

          Dick and Jane

Phonics make easy  (made up title)

    Literature

          Charlotte’s Web

    Math

          MEP Year 1B

    Tuesday

    ……….

    Future Resources:

This would allow me to kind of see the balance of the days, and give me an idea on whether I’m overscheduling a day.  I do work this out during the planning stage, but it could be very handy, especially when I am adjusting partway through a term…
