    I just got the copy I ordered in the mail! I bought the Occident and Orient for $40! It is in pretty good shape but no dust jacket.

    I got out my handy paper grocery bags and made a book cover! I felt like I was in middle school all over again.

    It is fabulous. Dd13 is reading it. I originally was making a squidoo page with go along videos and other info, but now she searches on her own. It’s been a smashing success here!

    It is such a special book. I have a second copy for one of my sons for his own. Halliburton’s other books are treasures as well.

    What age group is it for?

    I’d say around 8 or 10 and up. We’re reading it now. Both boys are 10 and even my Chinese son is enjoying it immensely.

    My kids read it around 6th grade on their own and every year it’s like I get to hear it again from their perspective.  I love when they do that or will say little things like I know where that is, or about that from the “O” books.  🙂

    This is one of my favorite books of all time!! Just seeing its title makes me smile. <happy sigh>  My college-age kids still remember it with fond memories, and they first read it probably 10 years ago (and begged me never to sell it so they could read it to their kids someday).

    Although, I almost feel bad there is so much praise for it, for fear that others may have too high of expectations and somehow be disappointed with it…. Ah well… that’s a chance we’ll have to take: I LOVE THIS BOOK!

    You can read the reviews on Amazon to see how this book has impacted the last couple of generations. I have all of his books including his letters to his parents and they are wonderful. There are just some books that leave a lasting impression and this is one of them.

    And someone just ordered one through my Amazon affiliate link on my website! Wow! Another treasure into eager hands. 🙂
