Hello friends! I have a good friend who will be going to China soon and she has asked me to help her put together some curriculum options for their trip. Her husband feels (and I would agree) that the best thing for their kids to learn about while in China….is China! So, I’m researching book selections that might be appropriate for a study of Chinese history. Is there enough information out there in English to do a 6 month unit study in Chinese history and culture? If not, is there a time period that would coincide best with the majority of Chinese history? Book recommendations (especially books available in digital format) would be extremely helpful. Thank you!

This is ancient China but some of the books would still be good– https://lettersfromnebby.wordpress.com/2012/07/15/ancient-china-lesson-plans/

I’m going to follow this thread.  I have 4 children all from China so this is something dear and dear to my heart.

Wow, thank you so much Nebby! This was beyond helpful! April, four kiddos from China, what a blessing! I’ve compiled a list on Amazon that I can share later but I’m still open to any suggestions?

You could check the book list for Sonlight’s core F. It’s all about the Eastern Hemisphere but some of the books are about China. Also, Zeezok Publishing has a Unit Study on the history of China. I don’t know if they have a recommended book list that goes with it or not. Just some ideas. ?

We’ve been using this curriculum:   A Heart for You China.  http://www.cornerstonecurriculum.com/Curriculum/Heart4You/Heart.htm

It’s been very interesting learning about China with this curriculum. It has a web that you use with each book recording your observations of culture, lifestyle, government, etc.   There is copy work and Bible translation from Chinese to English.  We’ve enjoy the literature selections as they have given us insight into the country.   I think we’ve enjoy Queen of the Dark Chamber by Christiana Tsai the most (It is her biography).  Fascinating insights into China in the late 1800 and early 1900s when so much transition was taking place.  It helps understand how families work in China during that period.

I have not used it as they have organized it, but spread things out more.  There is intensive copy work the first two weeks and we have done it throughout instead.  I’ve switched around weeks and it’s been no problem.  We’ve really enjoyed the Bible translation portion also.

    Hope this is helpful!
