Have any of you read through “The Story of the World 2 : Middle Ages thru the Reformation” with your dc?

What did you think? Did you and or your dc enjoy it?

Also, what ages do you think would enjoy this volume?

    Thanks once again.

We used this book last year and enjoyed it. My children were ages 9, 10 & 12 at the time we read it. We used My Father’s World curriculum and they included this book to be read with a couple others. The back of the book says it’s for elementary-aged children as a read-aloud or as independent reading for older children.

    Hope that helps!

We are using SOW 2 this year. We haven’t really enjoyed it as much as we did the first book. But that could also be due to the fact I love ancient history and have no reculection of learning any of the stuff in the middle ages.

But honestly the pictures to color and the stories don’t seem as engaging as they are in the first book. My DC are 8,6,4,2, they all color as they listen to the stories. We are just now on chapter 20 so we are moving along slowly..hopefully it will get better as we progress through the book more. I don’t have anything else to compare it to so it is working fine for my dc but just not as exciting as last years.

Sorry I don’t have more to help with.

Is this the one by Bauer? If so, if you are extremely concerned about accurate biblical/doctrinal information then I would look elsewhere. It is secular so it would depend on what you want for your family.

    Hi everyone,

We have just started with SOTW and i was wondering if anyone has used a more Biblical text to begin with? My daughter is almost 7 and i love the way SOTW is written but we thought it would be more in line with the bible. Just curious as to what else people use for biblical accuracy? I have read through some of Ruth Beechick’s stuff and like that. Just wondering….

    Thanks!

We usually use the Bible as our “spine” and then add in world history as it fits. The history modules on this site give more details.

You might also take a look at All Through the Ages from Nothing New Press. It has great timelines that show how Bible events fit into world history events.
