I feel a little like a broken record here – Nature, Art, Composer, Poetry, History, Science, Shakespeare, etc. Do y’all read aloud from a book from each of these “subjects” everyday? I’m still having a hard time fitting it all in each day and I’m not doing each subject every day. Lately I’ve had day dreams of “boring” subjects thrown out the window and time is spent out of doors doing nature study all day, combined with an art project. Or reading poetry on a blanket after taking a nature hike. Or just about anything…. you get the idea, right?

Ohh, no, dear, don’t try to do each of those subjects every day! You’ll be needing therapy! <g> We do Bible, math, some kind of language arts, and Latin every day; we do things like Shakespeare, art, composer, etc. once a week. We usually do history or science 2 or 3 times per week, excepting my high school son who does science every day, but he mostly doesn’t need me for much. A useful thing to do is to choose one or two of these special topics to do on a certain day. Another thing we’ve tried is to set aside one day (like Fridays, perhaps) as a Fine Arts type thing.

About those day dreams–there is nothing better for you AND yoru children to at least occasionally do EXACTLY as you suggest, and I think if you are dreaming of it, you should pick a day soon and DO exactly that. Really! Then copywork will seem ever so much easier to handle the next day. 🙂

You might consider looking up the wonderful book Wild Days, by lovely CM author Karen Rackliffe; it is a favorite of mine and a wonderful “justification” for all that can be gained by taking the occasional day out to hike, read poetry, paint, and look at the pretty leaves. Now, I want to hear all about your wonderful “wild day” when you do it. 🙂 (Can I come? LOL)

Oh Michelle – thanks for your response. 😀 You may certainly join me when I take my “wild day”. I guess I need to get the book first and make sure I know what I’m agreeing too. lol

    Blessings!

    Dear Michelle,

You can’t imagine how many of your responses to others I have saved!! Thank-you for being so kind and generous with your wisdom! Please say you plan to attend the seminar in St. Charles ?!?

    In Him,

    Nancy G.
