Okay wise friends, we are just now ready to begin Spelling Wisdom with our oldest, Makayla. She’s 11 and 6th grade. Her spelling is okay, she is the one who wanted to work on it. We gave her several options when she asked for spelling work and Spelling Wisdom is what she chose. (Options were All About Spelling, which we had, Sequential Spelling, Spelling Wisdom).

So now we own the full set of Spelling Wisdom books and I’m wondering if there is a good way to decide where to place Makayla. Would it be silly to start at the beginning of book 1 when she’s already 6th grade? Should we start partway through book 1, or even book 2? Is there a simple way to decide where she should start? I’m sure there is and I’m just not thinking of it.

We recommend that you use the free sample to try some lessons from each book. The sample includes a lesson from the beginning and middle of each Spelling Wisdom book, so you can get an idea of how difficult each book will be. Start by looking at the suggested grades for each book on the Spelling Wisdom page and have your child try the sample lessons that match her grade. If the lessons are too difficult, try the lessons from the previous book; if the lessons are too easy, move to the next book.

Tristan, my favorite SW book is book 3. I will be happy if all of my children just go through book 3. Sonya selects great passages. So, I think you have plenty of time to start in an earlier book.
