“I have decided that this year we need to be less family oriented in our studies to a degree…they are using each other as a crutch if I am not careful. I have been letting them work on it at the same time (doing their own passage), but have a similar situation with the feelings. Ugh – it makes me feel so out of balance, but it needs to happen.”
Yes, I understand. It can be a tough spot to be in. I’m there, too. Will be praying for a smooth year for you!
Thanks Lishie. I’ve seen this before and we’ve used it a bit, really enjoyed it, but within a short time, I noticed my dc quite distracted by the ads. Do you (or does anyone here on the forum) have the premium membership and if so, is it completely ad-free? (the description says it’s “commercial banner ad free” but I think I’d only pay for something if is was completely ad-free) Anyone know?
Prior to starting SW, when I used the free program I printed out the games and made weekly practice packets for my kiddos. As far as I remember there are no ads on those pages either.
Thanks Sheraz! I had no idea you could actually print out the games on Spelling World, I’ll have to play around with that (no pun intended 🙂 and try that with my boys. Thanks for the idea! Angie
Just pulled out SW to look at for our upcoming school year with my 8 y.o. 3rd grader. Is this too early to start? I noticed on the website it says to use “transcription” at first vs. dictation. What does this look like for you all? I’ve read through this post, so I’m sorry if this is repetitive; I’m just trying to get a firm grasp on this.
Thanks! Mandi

I have been wondering about this too! It looks like transcription is recommended for year 3, using the first half of Spelling Widsom?
Maybe this is just how you are supposed to transition into dictation.
Yes, transcription is the intermediary step between copywork and dictation. Here’s a short explanation of how that works. As always, the ages or grade levels are simply suggestions. Teach the child.
