Spelling Wisdom Question–Sonya?

I am using ULW and Spelling Wisdom Book 1 for my 4th grader. We are in the second half this year. He does well with the grammar portion. I have a question about the dictation part though. I am thinking that they should learn how to spell maybe 3 or 4 words at a time. Is that correct? For example he did lesson 104 today and the passages are quite long. I have basically been choosing a sentence from the passage for him to study and be ready for dictation. Although he can read the whole passage there are way more than 3-4 words that he does not know how to spell. Am I going about this the right way? Thanks in advance, Sonya, or anyone else for your insight.

Sounds like you’re doing well. Yes, I recommend that if the passage is too long you either assign a smaller portion or, if writing is the issue, assign the whole thing for studying and preparing but choose only a portion to actually dictate. The main thing is to keep him challenged but not frustrated.

Thank you so much for responding, Sonya!  Every once in a while I second guess myself so confirmation is so helpful. 🙂
