Both my 5th and 7th grader are pretty good speller.
We are using the book 1 Spelling Wisdom or Bible verses or other things we use for copywork.
I find that book 1 is not very challenging for them. Would the other books work better?
Also do the other books contain more challenging words or are the passages just longer?
I am not looking necessarily to do longer passages. My 5th grader writes very slowly and I do not want to spend one hour on dictation but would like to work on new words.
JennNCParticipantThe books get progressively harder. I would think that for a 7th grader who is a good speller, Book 1 would probably be too easy.
I don’t have my kids write ALL of the long passages. They study the passage in its entirety but then I only dictate a portion, of my choosing.

HollySParticipantI moved my 6th grader up to book 2 this fall…it’s been a good fit for her (book 1 was too easy). Have you tried some of the sample page excercises? I think there are a couple from each book.

We recently updated the sample to include six exercises from each book. There are a couple from the beginning, middle, and end of each book so that you can get a good idea of the progression of difficulty.
petitemomParticipantI didn’t know there were sample pages, I’ll check it out!
thank you!
jill smithParticipantAre they suppose to just read the sentences and then you dictate it back? Confused
with this too? I started my 5th grader in book 1 and my 9th grader in book 2. MAy be to easy at first but they do build up fast.
