Does anyone have a recommendation for upper science beyond Apologia? Something for a young man who cares more about web design than about biology/chemsitry/physics? Or, what about a living books science curriculum or reading lists?

I’m not sure the age of your son, but here is a discussion that includes several suggestions of other science books.

You might also check out Penny Gardner’s “Readable Science” book list.

One thing to keep in mind is that if your son is headed to college he will need to have some formal science (biology, chemistry, physics) with labs for admission, even if his field of study is not in science. What is required varies by college so if he is headed to college, or you think he may be, then I would check several colleges to find out what they require and design a study based on that information.

    Karen,

He has no plans on attending college. He is already studying and working in his field of interest. So he will just continue in and work through apprenticships to get the experience he needs.

If he likes computers then I would give him  Switched On Schoolhouse-Its all on the computer-the science –that way he is on the computer–it lets him play around and create while he is learning, it is automatically grades itself as the student is working(less work for mom). They make their own home page and can up load photos, ect. ect.

Then, just in case he changes his mind later–he has the science that he needs to get into college—my 15yo doesnt really ‘need’ science either for the carrer he wants—and he likes computers—so he is doing SOS Science starting next year for 10th.

    Just an idea

    Michele
