Simply Grammar, LLATL…or Neither

I’ve been using the Queen LL books for several years now. Now that we’re doing more of our own family time for poetry, picture study, etc… I’ve been thinking of moving away from those books and continuing with just copywork and/or dictation (Spelling Wisdom).

As I posted in another thread, I don’t want to give up the simplicity of what we do in exhcange for busy work, but I do like the idea of sneaking some grammar instruction in where I can, without it being too “school-y”, if that makes sense.

So, I’ve pondered adding either Simply Grammar or LLATL… Both appeal to me for different reasons.

If I do copywork and dictation, is LLATL too much on top of that, or would it be just a good “extra”?

    Thoughts?

How old are your children? If they’re first or second grade level, you may want to try some file folder games to introduce some grammar concepts.  I like most of what I’ve seen at http://www.filefolderfun.com. The only reason I put a grade limit on my suggestion is that she doesn’t have much “third grade” stuff yet, but the second grade material may work if your dc need those concepts.

They’re 9 & 7. Like I said, we’ve been doing the Queen LL books since the beginning, so they do know some grammar. I love their books, but they have become redundant now that we’re doing poetry, art, and such as a family.

So I’ve been doing copywork with them both, and planning to begin Spelling Wisdom w/ the 9 year old this Spring or next Fall.

I guess I’m wondering if Simply Grammar or LLATL would be good as a little extra assurance in the LA department, or if they would just equate to busy-work in addition to the copywork/dictation. Am I making any sense at all??? LOL, I don’t know why I’m having such trouble getting my thoughts out on this! Blah!!

Thank you, Karen, for the link. I’ll have a peek! : )
